"Whats that you say? I cant hear you for all that sustainnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!"
No. of strings: 3
LH / RH: Right
Box: Nope, its a lovely lump of English Elm.
Neck: Fretless Meranti neck with ebony fingerboard and MoP dot inlays.
Pickup / Electrics: P bass pickup with reworked top. Tone and volume pots feature cold war era bakelite chickenhead knobs.
Tuners: Sealed tuners
Bridge: Individual saddles for a fully adjustable set up.
Other: I love this one! If a caveman had been asked to design a flying V, I reckon this is what he would have come up with!
What would Ivor say...?
No. of strings: 6
LH / RH: Right
Body: 1960's Ivor Mairants 'Zenith' guitar.
Pickup / Electrics: Distressed humbucker mounted at the neck. Tone and volume pots with speed knobs mounted on homegrown cover.
Tuners: Reproduction 3-on-a-strip
Bridge: Replacement adjustable archtop bridge.
Other: This rather rare guitar came to me in a terrible state. The majority of the headstock was missing, the fretboard was rotten and all the frets and inlays had gone. The neck was seperated from the body, twisted along its length and the shape of a banana. The back had been off the guitar at some point and refitted by drunk, blind primates (I assume - it was not exactly well done). On the plus side, it was cheap and had a hardcase with it - again, in a sorry state.
Now please do not think I have 'restored' this classic. I am a cigar box builder, so it would have been morally wrong for me to embark on a restoration of any kind. What I have dione is fixed what needed fixing, and give it a modern twist with a high-ish action and a big dirty pickup for some seriosus slide action.
Plenty of more pics available, or check out this video of Chckenbone John having a jangle on it. In G minor, as you do.

What do you buy the guitarist who has everything?
A 'Strato-stool' of course!
Made from a real guitar body, these stools are a great conversation piece, and are multi-functional too - is it a stool or is it a coffee table? (All together now... "No, its a STRATO-STOOL")
You decide....
Available in black or pink.
